Our Mission

It shall be the mission of Keneseth Israel Congregation to provide a warm and spiritually nurturing environment in order to fulfill our religious, educational and social needs and create a community that is committed to living the teachings and principles of Judaism within a traditional Conservative framework that is inclusive of all members.

Provide a warm and spiritually nurturing environment:

An environment where members, their friends, family and guests feel welcome and where concern for their spiritual health and growth remains a priority.

Fulfill our religious, educational and social needs:

Religious needs

Promote individual responsibility to explore, learn, and grow through study and observance of Kashrut (the Dietary Laws) and celebration of Shabbat, Jewish Holidays and festivals and life cycle events and to foster Jewish religious life in the home and in everyday life.

Educational needs

Promote the study of Jewish tradition, including Hebrew as a living language, the liturgy of the worship services, Jewish history and halacha (Jewish law); provide educational programming to meet the learning needs of congregants at each age and stage of life; and in turn to encourage all members to assume personal responsibility for learning and teaching others in order to fulfill the obligations of Jewish citizenship and leadership.

Social Needs

Provide a central gathering place for the social activities of the entire congregation by offering programming to all congregants at each age and stage of life.

Create a community that is committed to living the teachings and principles of Judaism within a traditional Conservative framework that is inclusive of all members:

Assist our members, both men and women as equals, in the quest to follow the central principles of Conservative Judaism in their daily lives. These principles include: study of Torah; Tikkun Olam (bringing a Jewish perspective to the search for social justice and to assume positions of service and leadership within the synagogue and in both the larger Jewish and general communities); and support of Israel as the historic, cultural, and religious homeland of the Jewish people.
